Time to busy those hands!

I wrote yesterday about a family that had been affected by the bushfires, a family that as a community we were able to put a face to, to hear their story and to do something practical to help as opposed to loading donations of goods on a truck and wondering if they ever found a new home. I was able to busy my mind shopping for this family and feel as though I was actually doing something practical. I knew the new baby needed a quilt and who better to call on than my friend at OzCountryQuiltingMum. I knew Tracey had kept her hands busy on the weekend when the fires were raging and made a quilt that needed a new home. Sure enough I have a future in matchmaking and Tracey visited the new Mum and baby in hospital yesterday. They talked about the loss and about the wonderful patchwork she had in her home even though she was not a sewer herself and an idea was born! We are calling on all quilters out there who would like to help by making a block. We are thinking a sampler quilt, blocks 12 1/2" with seam allowance (so 12" finished), in country style (the lady's favorite), plaids, creams rather than white, burgundy, checks etc. If you would like to help make up your favorite block and get it in the post as soon as you are able. If we receive too many blocks we will make them into other quilts and this family will help us find other recipients in her area that survived. If you can help hop on over to http://ozcountryquiltingmum.blogspot.com/ , let Tracey know then get those fingers busy!!!

Maybe you really do have a future in match making :) lovely gesture! I wish I could quilt so I could contribute- but I think I have another idea. Perhaps the mum would like one of my necklaces? If you can get me her children's names I will make one and send it to you so it can be passed on. I also have a few little girl baby thing that I bought in case I was having a girl, but I now I know it's a boy and don't need them. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for them :)

I am making comfort bags this weekend, but I'm certain to make some blocks as well. So glad that Tracey's beautiful quilt could go to the baby. You are a matchmaker of the finest type.

I haven't quilted in ages but if you can organise some photo's of the new baby with her family I would love to do up a little scrapbook for them. Is the father still alive. A photo of him would be nice as well considering they would have lost all their photos.

Hi, I discovered your lovely blog from the toing and froing re donations by quilters on the internet for the victims. I am in Nz and would love to contribute. We have obviously done the money thing but I was thinking of a longer term project when people are beginning to set up again and as a quilter my thoughts were to either sew a quilt, blocks(quicker) or quilt up a already done quilt top and send that. Im just waiting for the right direction and the right time as at the moment I understand the red cross are full up with donations blankets etc etc. I think you are doing a wonderful thing and Ill stay in touch with your blog to see whats new.
love and hugs

Great idea and good to be so specific to the family.
